LEEDS: Pakistan’s young guns have made upward movements in the ICC Test Player Rankings following their tense three-wicket victory over Australia at Headingley here on Saturday.

Fast bowler Mohammad Aamer, who was declared man-of-the-match for his figures of 7-106, has vaulted 13 places for a career-best 38th position in the latest rankings which were released on Sunday. Aamer had entered the series in 54th position and after has gained 16 places.

Besides Aamer, Umar Gul moved up one place to 16th while Mohammad Asif and Danish Kaneria have retained their second and 15th spots respectively.

In the Test batsmen rankings, opener Imran Farhat has been rewarded for his scores of 43 and 67 with a jump of 12 places which puts him on 34th, two behind captain Salman Butt who retained 32nd spot. Rookie batsman Azhar Ali has rocketed 29 places to 58th.

However, the Akmal brothers slipped in the rankings. Kamran dropped two places to 39th while his younger brother Umar slipped four places to 40th.

For Australia, vice-captain Michael Clarke moved up one place to fourth spot and fast bowler Ben Hilfenhaus jumped seven places to 24th.

While captain Ricky Ponting has defended his 16th place, opener Simon Katich has slipped four places to 10th, Michael Hussey dropped out of the top 20 after falling six places to 26th. In the bowling charts, Mitchell Johnson dropped two places to sixth while Doug Bollinger retained 14th.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s first win over Australia earned them four rating points and puts them five clear of seventh-placed New Zealand. Australia, in third, have slipped from 119 ratings points to 116 ratings points.

End.
