ANP has imposed political martial law in KP: Fazl

PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday came down hard on the Awami National Party (ANP)-led provincial government, saying that it had failed to restore peace as an unannounced martial law had been imposed in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since the installation of the government.
He said the JUI-F would liberate the masses of the KP from the unannounced martial law. He said that slogans could not solve the problems of masses, adding that the economic institutions of the country were not in position to give loans to government.
He renewed his pledge to continue the struggle within the constitutional framework for restoration of peace in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the tribal belt.
"We are against war whether it is launched by the army or the Taliban. We want peace on our soil," the Maulana told a party gathering here. A large number of people announced joining the JUI-F on the occasion.
The gathering was also addressed by JUI-F General Secretary Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, provincial General Secretary Maulana Mohammad Qasim, Haji Ghulam Ali and others.
The JUI-F leader said those taking credit for winning provincial autonomy had pushed the region towards war. "The ANP wants power, but we want peace," he remarked
He added the US won't dare interfere in the internal affairs of Pakistan if peace was established in the country.
The Maulana said efforts were being made to create differences in the name of regionalism and 'provincialism, which were detrimental to the nation. He said his party was desirous of reviving the alliance of religious parties.
The JUI-F chief said the Pakistani nation had the capability to overcome the prevailing morass, but the rulers were not playing any role for restoration of peace.
He accused the rulers of furthering the agenda of the West at the expense of the country's sovereignty.
The JUI-F leader linked the ANP-convened All Parties' Conference to the restoration of peace. "We will give our proposals in the APC if we are assured that these will be implemented in letter and spirit," he said.
However, he said his party had rejected the APC as it didn't want to get involved in aimless exercise.
The JUI-F chief said consultation should be made for restoration of peace in the tribal areas and tribal jirgas should be employed for the purpose.
