25-30 bullet wounds on Bhatti’s body: ED PIMS

ISLAMABAD: Executive Director PIMS Prof. Mehmood Jamal Wednesday said 25 to 30 bullets had riddled the body of Shahbaz Bhatti, Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs, who was assassinated by unknown armed men in Islamabad on Wednesday morning, our sources reported.
Briefing the media men, ED PIMS said it would take about 24 to 72 hours in making the final post mortem report of the slain Minister.
He said a five-doctor board did the post mortem of the deceased which revealed that most of the bullet wounds were on the torso – chest and shoulders.
Prof. Jamal said the final post-mortem report would be issued after the forensics completes its investigations. This will take 24 to 72 hours time, he added.
He said the family of the deceased has requested to preserve the body at the hospital’s facility for a couple of days.
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari Wednesday said the position fell vacant after the assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti would be offered to one his family members, our sources reported.
He said this while addressing the Sindh Assembly members belonging to Pakistan People’s Party.
The President said the terrorists cannot, with their cowardly acts, threaten the government or PPP. “We will not let the extremists succeed in their agenda,” he added.
Hillary `outraged` by murder of Shahbaz Bhatti
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Wednesday she was "shocked and outraged" by the slaying of Catholic Pakistani government minister Shahbaz Bhatti.
"I was shocked and outraged by the assassination," Clinton told a Senate committee, adding it was also an attack on "the values of tolerance and respect."
France ‘horrified’ at Bhatti’s assassination
The French Government is ‘horrified’, and expresses its indignation over the assassination of the Pakistani Minister for minorities, Shahbaz Bhatti.
“France condemns in the strongest possible terms this heinous crime. Everything must be done to identify and punish the culprits,” said a statement issued at French Embassy in Islamabad.
It said the assassination is the second one targeting a senior political figure in the last two months. It took place in a worrying context of attacks on freedom of speech and religious freedom in Pakistan.
“Nobody can accept that a human being be assassinated for what he is or what he believes in.”
France salutes the memory of this political figure who very bravely defended for many years the rights of the minorities and promoted human rights as a whole.
France had received Shahbaz Bhatti on the invitation of the Ministry for Foreign and European affairs. Today she offers her condolences to his family members and loved ones.
More than ever, France reaffirms her support to the Pakistani authorities. She encourages them not to yield to extremism and to pursue their fight against terrorism and all forms of violence undermining civil liberties.”
