LAHORE: Accommodating almost all major regions of the province, the 21-member cabinet of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was sworn-in on Monday.

Governor Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood administered the oath to the provincial cabinet members in a simple but graceful ceremony at the Governor's House. The chief minister was also present there.

The cabinet members who have taken oath include former law minister Rana Sanaullah, former deputy speaker Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, former provincial minister Iqbal Channar, Ch Abdul Waheed, Dr Farrukh Javed, former adviser to chief minister Zakia Shahnawaz, Hameeda Waheeduddin, Asif Malik, Mian Ata Manika, Asif Saeed, former minister Col Shujja Khanzada, former minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman and former minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar.

Sources within the PML-N informed our sources that the party leadership was considering holding local bodies elections, which are expected in the next four to six months. The Punjab Assembly consists of 371 members, and constitutionally, it can hold 11 percent of ministries, so around 40 ministers can be entitled as ministers in the province.

It is also pertinent to mention here that Punjab Governor Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood, who administrated the oath to the new cabinet of the province, has already submitted his resignation from the office of the governor to the president, but until the oath-taking ceremony of the provincial cabinet, it (resignation) was not accepted.

End.
