2 cops among 12 wounded in Chaman bomb blast

QUETTA: At least 12 people, including two police personnel, were wounded in a remote-controlled explosion in Chaman Town, a township that shares border with Afghanistan, on Thursday.

According to a senior police officer, the target was a police patrol vehicle. "The improvised explosive device (IED) was rigged to a motorbike which was parked near a hotel on Mall Road in Chaman. The bomb was detonated remotely when the police vehicle passed by," said Mohammed Ashraf, a police officer in Chaman.

Rescue workers, police and paramilitary troops shifted the injured to the Civil Hospital Chaman. Six people who had sustained minor injuries were discharged.

The explosion damaged the police vehicle and a private car and shattered the windowpanes of nearby shops. One of the injured was shifted to Quetta because of critical wounds. Most of the injured were passersby. The explosion occurred near the building of a government office. There area was sealed off soon after the incident. There were no claims of responsibility for the attack.
