Now settled in the USA, originally comes from Shahkot (Sheikhupura). Professionally he is a Physicist (Ph.D. in Experimental Solid State Physics) and in addition to scores of technical documents has published 50 research papers, holds more than 70 patents in countries around the world. His expertise covers technical fields of semiconductors, material science and optical communication and networking. Dr. Shahid was associated with world famous Bell Laboratories from where he opted to retire in 2001 in order to pursue other interests.
Dr Shahid has a keen literary interest and is a published poet and writer. His books on Panjabi poetry include ‘gallan day parchhaweN’, ‘murr ghar aa’, ‘sanjhee kull khudaee’,
‘rattjagay’ and ‘chobh suee dee’ (the last is poetic Panjabi rendering of Mirza Ghalib). ‘Raqs-e-srab’ is Urdu poetry book while 2nd is in print.
Dr. Shahid has written and published essays and articles on themes of general interest in English, Urdu and Panjabi press.
